Red for Valentine’s Day! If you are in need of some Valentines-aversion entertainment PBS Frontline will premiere The Interrupters 2/14 at 9/8c.

“During one weekend in Chicago in 2008, 37 people were shot, seven of them fatally. Now, a group of older, former gang leaders are trying to “interrupt” shootings and protect their communities from the violence they once committed.”

I saw Ameena, Eddie and Cobie along with the film’s two directors at a Chicago Ideas Week presentation last year. Listening to their stories of violence every day on the South-side was hard not to feel petty and even guilty for being so ignorant of that reality (even though that wasn’t their motivation). Cease Fire is solely focused on stopping killings and I think part of the reason they have made such an impact is because their cause is so specific and they leave other groups to focus on the drugs, crime and awareness. So watch it or dvr it if you have more exciting V-day plans than PBS:)
